2023–2024: among the world’s and Europe’s leading teams

Second place at the Tampere World Championships, national competition in Kyiv and overall victory at the Lublin Europeans.

2023: ten world gold medals

At Tampere’s World Championships on 3–10 September, Ukraine won 10 gold, 3 silver and 8 bronze medals, finishing second overall. The event brought together 1,200 athletes from 63 countries.

Kira Chekis won junior sparring, Anna Sirokvasha II Dan patterns and Artur Kuzmin senior sparring. Daria Tomenchuk, Tymofii Matviichuk and Zakhar Zubyk won gold in the younger age group. The pre-junior girls’ and junior women’s teams won special technique and sparring. Individual and team medals demonstrated the strength of several Ukrainian generations.

2024: victory at the European Championships

On 1–3 March, Kyiv hosted the Ukrainian Championships for pre-juniors, juniors and adults. More than 240 athletes represented sixteen regions. The national event brought clubs together ahead of the season’s major European competition.

At the European Championships in Lublin on 17–22 April, Ukraine finished first overall with 16 gold, 11 silver and 15 bronze medals. There were 840 competitors from 33 countries.

Champions included Denys Lypovetskyi, Lidiia Pryimak, Polina Krysevych, Yelyzaveta Boiko, Ivan Yevsieiev and Maksym Tyshchenko in sparring, and Mariia Honcharuk in special technique. Ukrainian pre-junior and junior male and female teams also won team sparring.
